- This is the information about going from
Antigua, Guatemala
toSanta Ana, El Salvador
using local bus and colectivo.
- It is going to be a very long trip including 4 transfers and immigration. I would recommend to leave early as possible so that you won’t be arriving at night. 6 am is a good time to take the first bus in Antigua.
Antigua Guatemala to Escuintla Guatemala
At a bus station in Antigua, you will take a chicken bus to Escuintla. The bus terminal in Antigua is behind the Mercado bus address. The cost is 20 quetzals. It took 1.5 hours
Escuintla Guatemala to Frontera (border)
You transfer the chicken bus that goes to the Guatemala - El Salvador border. The bus driver or assistant is screaming that “Frontier” so it’s easy to find one. In my case, It is the same place where I dropped off in Escuintla and the one that goes to the border. At the border, just show the passport to both the Guatemala and El Salvador immigration offices. Once you go through the Guatemala immigration, walk toward El Salvador immigration. 60 quetzals. It took 3.5 hours. Guatemala border immigration address
Frontera (border) to Sonsonate El Salvador
From Salvador Frontera, you take a bus to Sonsonate. The bus terminal is near this area. Ask people around there if you don’t see them. I was walking away ahead of the place and someone told me that you passed the bus station. The bus fare was 0.9$.
Sonsonate El Salvador to Santa Ana El Salvador
The bus from Frontera will stop at the terminal in Sonsonate. You transfer to a different bus that goes to Santa Ana. I did not know this bus from Frontera goes to Sonsonate terminal so I got off the bus early, but that was a mistake. I had to walk like 30 minutes to the bus terminal in Sonsonate -_-. Also, the bus from Sonsonate does not go to the terminal in Santa Ana. I assume the bus went to a different city through Santa Ana. Because of previous mistakes, I was watching the map on my phone to see if getting closer to the hostel. So I got somewhere close walk distance to the hostel. The bus fare was 0.9$. There was a traffic jam so bad that from Frontera to Santa Ana total 4.5 hours.
